Hello Everyone,

I see that you are shy about posting!

Please take just a minute to introduce yourself. We'd all love to know about your experience with knitting socks.

It would also be great to know what is the most helpful socknitting tip you ever received? Was it from your LYS, a website, a class, a good knitting friend?

Hi. I am Joy. I started knitting socks early in my knitting journey because I thought they would be useful, but short projects to work on. I learned many tips from socknitters.com way back, about 10 years ago? At that time I was using the website heavily. The most useful tip I learned was about making sure the cast-on at the top of the cuff was nice and loose.

I'm Phyllis. I live in Texas where winters are (usually) short and summers are long, long, and longer. I love sock knitting, and tend to stay with mindless and basic. Although I have a near-library of sock knitting books, my go-to is still "Getting Started Knitting Socks" by Ann Budd, which has enough variations to keep things interesting. I like fast, which for me is a dpn triad on good needles. I love reading what others are doing and am always open to suggestions and ideas, so do keep them coming.

I live in Kentucky. I'm 59, and I only learned to knit a few years ago in order to be able to make socks. I'm diabetic and have trouble with swelling, so I couldn't get commercial socks to fit me. It took about three years to get a decent-fitting sock for myself. Lots and lots of trial and error. It was worth the time and effort. This winter has been the coldest in a long time, and, thankfully, I've had a couple pairs of socks to get me through. 8-) Looking forward to cranking out many more pairs.

Best tip I was ever given? "It's all about the gauge. Gauge is *everything* in knitting socks." So true. 8-)

The changes Yahoo has made to its groups has made finding information there very cumbersome, so I do hope this group does well.

Hi
I'm Lou from Canada. I was very regular user of the original Socknitters and was disappointed when the system started being bombarded with spammers. A group of us tried to help Mary out by deleting the unwanted registrations but the volume was too great! I'm glad to see this group revived with a safer server! I'm an avid knitter and spinner. Socks are my favourite go to project in between larger ones, or even during larger ones. My DH is most often the lucky recipient of socks and slippers. I'm forever looking for tips and advice and love to collaborate with other knitters from everywhere. It's good to be back!

Hi, I'm Judy as you can tell from my username. :)
I have been knitting socks about 6 years I would guess. I have been intrigued by them for many, many years but thought I could not do them. Then one day I watched a lady knitting socks and decided if she could, then I could and I did. I love my hand knit socks. I never have cold feet if I have MY socks on.
My cat just loves my sock drawer, Any chance he gets he is in there luxuriating in all the knitterly goodness. When I figure out my new computer and how to post pics I will put one here of him in the drawer.
I just got this computer today and it has windows 8.1 and I am used to XP Pro so I have some figuring out to do. I also have to get everything over here on it and my son has to get me connected to the office network. Guess that will wait for Monday.
Anyway, that is me sockwise in a nutshell.

Judy

hi I'm arno, a new knitter, interested only in socknitting. I started learning how to make socks a few years ago, and got distracted by other things, and now I'm back at learning to knit socks.Still working on getting some regularity with my stitches, and reducing errors. I'll be posting questions as they come up, and will be interested to read what other people post.

I am Barb Rickman (twobrownears) on the old socknitters site.
I spin, weave, knit and crochet. I am a certified knitting instructor with Craft Yarn Council and I love socks best. I have begun sweater knitting finally but I always come back to the simple, useful sock. I have a project at work always because my work is boring and tedious. The colors of the yarn liven up a drab grey wearhouse and break up the monotonous work I do for hours on end.

Hello there! My name is Tammy. I was a member of the old site and was glad to see that it didn't completely disappear! I LOVE knitting and designing socks. I'm currently working on several new designs that I'd like to put together as an ebook before long.

In addition to socks, I also knit lots of sweaters and cardigans (mostly for me lol) I enjoy knitting toys and other fun things for my grandchildren.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Actually, I had been thinking about that. I was hoping that maybe it would help generate some activity here, as well.

Hi, my name is Sherry. I am progressing along the sock learning line. I love knitting them and have at least 3 socks in progress, that way I don't get bored. Some are on double points, others on Magic Loop. Started doing toe up and now mostly do top down. Have a few easy lace patterns for the instep which I'm glad to share. In next pair of toe up's I'm going to try the yarn over increase. Am not happy with knit into front and back increase or the M1 increase. I'll let you know how that goes.

Hi! My name is Paula. I started knitting socks at age 8. My grandma always used to knit socks, sweaters, beanies or anything you can imagine. I always loved to sit and watch her, so she taught me from a young age. I can't knit all day like she did, but at least once a week I'm working in a project :D
